Marziya Shakir My First Grand Child
Marziya gets upset when I make her pictures BW .. she loves colorful ..and I dont blame her we all want color in our lives .. that is why on streets in Mumbai during most feast days it is color sprinkled in the air that rejuvenates the surroundings and the festive moment.
Marziya is now in the first standard , very perceptive and the eldest among my other two grand daughters Nerjis and Zinnia Fatima.
But Nerjis is very smart today she visited my dear friend Dr Sanjeev Mani and he gave her a box of Swiss chocolates , she bought it home handed it to my wife and shared it with the others.
Nerjis talks in complete sentences and with a fluidity of thought sensible thread of a conversation that amazes me ,,she listens to reason but she gives back if pushed ,, and she is crazy about the Kama the ritual where males cut their heads in the memory of Imam Hussain.. she wants to do the kama and I tell her she is a girl and does not have to do it ,,, mind you she is just 2 year old.
The third grand child is very beautiful and on the sturdier side hence carrying her is very tough for me ,, Zinnia Fatima loves the camera ,,, and I have kept it away from her completely ,,
Marziyas best friend is Mehreen both are students of the same school and have been together since the play school days.
But the way I shot Marziya ,, I dont shoot my other grand daughters ,,

From a very young age and ever since she got her first camera Nikon D 80 as a gift from her American godfather Dr Glenn Losack Marziya Shakir my first grand daughter spent more time dabbling shooting pictures than playing with dolls .. as for me I was past the 40s when I began learning photography,,
Marziya Shakir met some great photographers who visited my house this picture shot by Jean Marc an old friend we met first time in real life in Mumbai ,, we were connected at Buzznet in 2005 he used to be called El Gekko..
So Marziya met Marc De Clercq shot his pictures , Glenn Losack, Kim Viola , Reza Masoudi , Francois a French photographer and many others ,,she did not hesitate to shoot them now at 6 she teaches what she learnt from me to Nerjis 2 year old ,, Zinnia Fatima my third grand child also 2 her birthday was celebrated a day before is not intimidated by the Canon.
So in short if you inculcate a love of any art sport in your children and they like it , it flourishes , every time Marziya goes to Lucknow I think she will forget to shoot when she returns but she is as good or much better ,,And I am not saying you should force what you love on your ward but I did I let the camera enter their souls hook line and sinker.
We must learn that is essential and what counts , my grandchildren all girls wont take up photography for sure , it is only a means not an end.
All three are net savvy , Marziya browses Flickr and my Photos,, but I take her less outside , as now it is the turn of Nerjis Asif Shakir 2 year old,,,I have stopped shooting pictures of late I manipulate my old pictures tweak them give them a new shelf life ..and as bloggers it is much easier ,,, content and form.. words arrive instantly ,,

Marziya Shakirs 6 Birthday
Marziya Shakirs birthday falls on 24 November during Moharam so the family celebrated it last evening as per Islamic calendar .. a small party for children and few of her best friends and her sisters Nerjis and Zinnia Fatima ,, but the other two thought it was their birthday too.. so all 3 cut the cake and some kids games ,,
Nerjis and Zinnia Fatima shot picture too.
Zinnia in blue is very good in handling the camera and astonishes me as I kept her away from my camera...being too small..21 month old,,,

Marziya took this shot on the Nikon D 80 , and she was pretty cool with them, she offered them her packet of biscuits and her pack of wafers that they ate and relished it too.
In the meantime they freshened up at my place and wife made tea for them and gave them home made ladoos.

Without kissing the dirt of your feet and rubbing it on my forehead I would have not become what I am today ,, I reiterate you taught me values you taught me somethings that are not photography and in a way I learnt everything you did not teach me .those things my parents bequeathed me .. they gave me a path luckily I met you on that path along with Mr Jatkar Mr Malushte and all that I imbibed I am now placing it in the open palms of my grand daughter ..
I taught my grand daughter that she was lucky, she sat played with the slum kids , I showed her the beggar world the world of hijras I showed her starvation , I showed her deformities sores and at that time hung on my waist she saw what I saw through the viewfinder .. today her vision is greater than mine and she will never be corrupted by camera club culture or by the breed of monsters of the camera club..
She wont be polluted by media photographers she shoots what they never shot as those days when her age they were shitting in their diapers ..I am lucky that I found a Master in you.. you are everything but not an old fogy or an old fart that I call those who have destroyed Photography for Good..
You at 90 are on the Internet sharing goodness you were never part of photographic politics .. and you never sold your pictures though you could have coming from a business family .. so I learnt much from you .. and today as a Dam Madar Malang of a fakir Sufi order I too understand the vagaries of time and tide ...
My grand daughter Marziya Shakir 4 year olds pictures are healing balm on the soul of humanity she will never participate in a Photography Salon .. where all pictures look alike only names change .. no I have empowered her to go beyond rules ,... it is not her camera but her poetic soul that overrides camera manuals ..she wont thirst for Acceptances Certificates of Merit or Awards pictures judged by those who have never shot pictures when they were 2 year old .. forgive me for my outspokenness in all humility ..
And hold on Sir at 7 month old Nerjis Asif Shakir is learning photography too .. so what you gave me , the fruits that you were offering to God that slipped from your hands fell into the out stretched hands of my grand daughters .
